BIRTH DOULA SERVICE

Our doula service is a way that we can provide a fresh face and a qualified labor assistant at a reasonable cost. Our service is a collaborated effort of several doulas to provide the best care and balance families as well. Once you consider the cost of an epidural, a doctor, and other items you receive at the hospital, the cost of a doula is minimal and the reward is more than money can buy.

DOULA SERVICE DETAILS

Doulas are with you when you are ready for us to join you in active labor, either in your home or at the hospital. A doula is on call 24 hours a day and can be by your side within 1-2 hours from the phone call. Once you go into labor, the doula you selected as your primary doula will be notified. If she is not available, your back up doula will be called. If for some unforeseen reason, your back up doula is not available, the doula “on call” will be notified. You will have the opportunity to meet all of our doulas through your prenatal meetings and establish a relationship.

Our doula will stay with you until you give birth. If your labor should continue past 12-14 hours, the doula has the option to call in a back up. In order to ease the transition of another doula being present, there will be a 1-2 hour period that you would have two doulas present. After that point, the first doula may leave in order to gain some well-deserved rest and nourishment. You will never have more than 2 doulas during your birth.

WHAT IS A DOULA?

A doula has been called "Mothering the Mother" as a way to describe the security, safety, and comfort doulas can provide to women in labor.

In nearly every culture throughout history, women have been surrounded and cared for by other women during childbirth. Artistic representations of birth throughout "Doula"-a Greek word meaning "Woman's servant." In labor support terminology, "doula" refers to a supportive companion (not a friend or loved one) professionally trained to provide labor support. She performs no clinical tasks. "Doula" also refers to lay women who are trained or experienced in providing postpartum care (mother and newborn care, breastfeeding support and advice, cooking, child care, errands, and light cleaning) for the new family. To distinguish between the two types of doulas, one may refer to "birth doulas" and "postpartum doulas."
