NEW Daily Affirmations on your phone

Welcome to our July newsletter. We are now calling our newsletter "Village Talk". Same great newsletter - just a new name. As I sit down each month to write this newsletter it brings me clarity and focus to my mission. It helps me to remember and be thankful for the opportunity to reach all of you, if only at least once a month.

Welcoming my 3rd baby boy into this world recently has had a profound impact on resurfacing the journey of motherhood. Those sleepless nights, milky smiles and now 3 beautiful faces to wake up to every morning. What a blessing and what a reminder of how important our village is. Having the opportunity to experience the baby stage again reminds me of why Natural Lullabies exists - because we’re trying to fill a need. The need to support, empower and educate women who are journeying through motherhood. Thank yo u for supporting me and thank you for allowing us to support you! It takes a village...

We are organizing two major upcoming events - World Breastfeeding Week: August 1st - 7th and Natural Lullabies 5 Year Birthday: October 2008. There are going to be some exciting events, sales and celebrations to come. We hope you will join us in the celebrations and festivities.

Blessings,
Melissa Morrill

BEYOND BABIES

Is your baby not a baby anymore? Moving into the active toddler stage seems to happen overnight. You might remember that just yesterday you were giving birth to this little precious bundle and today you’re chasing him around the house.

Natural Lullabies has been perfecting the art of being a village to mama’s during
pregnancy and babyhood. Now, we are stepping into the toddler arena. Although it can be exhausting raising a toddler, we know how much fun those short people can be. New classes are on the horizon just to entertain and enrich the toddlers of Tulsa (and their mama’s too). Register for an 8 class pass on one of our new Toddler Yoga BEFORE JULY 31st and receive $10.00 OFF!

T O D D L E R - Y O G A (starts Aug. 1st)
Toddler Yoga Class Time: Fridays 11:30 am

Yoga for a toddler may sound impossible, but we say why not? We’ve had a few visiting toddlers in our diaper yoga over the last year and have had the opportunity to practice on our own tiny tots to bring the first toddler yoga class to T- Town. This fun, interactive class will be a unique way for your toddler to get to know himself a little better. Using animals, imagination and some story time, yoga exploration will begin.

T O D D L E R - S I G N - L A N G U A G E (starts Sept. 1st)
Toddler Sign Language Class Times: Fridays 1:00 pm

After nearly 4 years of teaching babies how to communicate using their hands, we are now offering a Signing Activity class for toddlers. Songs, stories and age appropriate games all using sign language will prove to be a unique experience. Using sign language can be fun and enhance speech and communication, even in a speaking child.

T O D D L E R - A R T (starts Sept. 1st)
Toddler Art Class Time: Thursdays 1:00 pm

Does doing art with your toddler scare you? A messy toddler can seem frightening to even the most laid back mom. We’re taking the challenge on because we know how important it is for toddler to explore their creative side. We believe all children have the ability to be creative and we want to encourage that in our Toddler Art class. With inspiring music playing in the background, your toddler will have the opportunity to draw, paint and sculpt their way to
creativity.

WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK : August 1st - 7th

Knowing how important that babies have the best possible start at life, research in the last few decades have proven over and over again that breastfeeding makes a huge difference. Each year, World Breastfeeding Week takes place World Breastfeeding Week 2008
the first week of August as an opportunity to bring awareness to the public about the benefits to both mother and baby when breastfeeding is established. Natural Lullabies has organized some events to bring more awareness, more education and more importantly, a better start for as many mothers and
babies as they can reach.

T his year’s celebrations will include a Silent Auction, Breastfeeding Carnival, Mother’s Night Out and a Pregnancy Pampering Night. All events are part of an
effort to raise $5,000 to put together “Breastfeeding Starter Kits”. These free kits will be given out to local pregnant mothers in their third trimester of pregnancy in attempt to provide resources to mothers who are planning to breastfeed their babies.

Being supported and educated during breastfeeding undoubtedly makes a positive impact on successful breastfeeding relationships between mother and baby. We hope these kits will bring education into a situation where it
may not have been available otherwise. “If we can help just one mom have a better chance at breastfeeding, we feel like our effort was successful” states Melissa Morrill, owner of Natural Lullabies and breastfeeding mom.

CAN YOU SPOIL A BABY?

According to Attachment Parenting International (API), responding to babies with sensitivity is a key component of building trust. One of the ways babies communicate is crying. “Frequent holding and interactions with baby increase bonding and promote secure attachment,” according to API’s website. Treating a baby with respect and empathy helps them learn to feel safe and secure. This seems to come natural to mama’s when their baby cries. If the mother is supported in doing so, she will be much more likely to pick her baby up and respond sensitively. However, if she has been told that she will spoil a baby, many times mother’s wonder if they are doing harm by picking up her baby and she will leave her baby to cry.
