More and more women are choosing to continue to breastfeed after going back to work. Although this choice can initially seem difficult, over time the process of pumping, storing and feeding bottles becomes easier and easier. Additionally, many women are scared by the up front cost of the breast pump. Who would believe that a breast pump costs $300?? Even with this high investment, you still save money in the long run. I always say, it will only take a few months of buying formula to equal the cost of the pump. So, for less cost breastfeeding and pumping will also be more beneficial for you and your baby.
With the birth of my first son, I worked part-time and pumped successfully until he was 13 months old. At which time, I found that he could make it through the day with other liquids and would nurse from the minute I got home until I went back to work. We went on to breastfeed until he was past 2 years old. I know that the first weeks of pumping were confusing and a lot of work. Once I got into the swing of things, it become so much easier.
If you're getting ready to go back to work in the coming weeks or months, we have developed a new workshop "Returning to Work After Baby" where we discuss how to make life easier when returning to work. We will also cover pumping, storage, meal planning and time management. This workshop is only 90 minutes and costs $40 per person. We will be bringing in a pump to talk about cleaning parts and saving time. This is a great workshop to take in the last trimester of pregnancy, if you're planning to return to work after the baby arrives.
REGISTER FOR WORKSHOP ONLINE (upcoming date: 9/27/08 @ 1:00 pm)

Also, there is a lot of information online about pumping, so I wanted to link to some websites. The more you can arm yourself with support, education and proper planning the better your pumping experience will go!
