By now, most people know what a doula is but just in case you don't know... A doula is a professional labor and birth support companion. She provides emotional guidance, support and education during pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Generally, a doula is hired by families to act as a support role although some hospitals offer doula services. We have gathered some of our favorite doulas and are hoping you find one that suits you. All of our doulas agree on one thing, it's very important for the right families to be matched with the right doula. Read the bio's and call the doula(s) you're most interested in working with. If you find out she's not a fit, call another one. We're all in this together and we honor that differences within our group and within families. 1. Represent themselves in a professional manner when in contact with clients and other birth professionals.
2. Demonstrate high ethical standards and integrity.
3. Encourage clients to be active in their childbirth choices while honoring the parents right to make choices in an informed manner.
4. Respect the privacy of their clients.
5. Honor all agreements made for doula services.
6. Refrain from giving medical advice to clients but instead providing Research and resources to the best of the doula’s knowledge.
7. Respect the childbirth choices made by clients.
8. Works with clients’ care-providers and colleagues with respect and honesty.
9. Refrain from performing medical services*.
10. Refer clients to appropriate resources if faced with something beyond the scope of a doula.
